MAY 6 ROTARY MEETING:
OFFSITE—RSVP REQUIRED by MAY 1
The May 6 Rotary meeting will be an offsite meeting at the Carlsbad Safety Center, 5750 Orion St., next to Fire Station 5. As you pass the fire station, veer to the left and enter the parking lot on the right. Signs will direct you to the 2nd-floor room where we will be meeting. The day’s topic will be surviving an active shooter situation. There will be NO meeting at the Westin or by Zoom on this day.
You MUST reserve by May 1 since lunch will be provided to those who are Active members and for $15 each to Flex and Rule of 85 members and guests who make a reservation. ALL attendees must RSVP on SignUpGenius.
This safety training center is one of the most modern public safety training venues in the county. Our speaker will be Police Capt. Ryan Opeka, who will discuss what to do if confronted with an active shooter situation at a venue such as a theater, concert, place of worship, school, mall or other. As part of the SWAT team, Opeka has trained police officers in response tactics. Hi Noon President Jeff Segall says, “I have seen his training program presented to the Carlsbad Community Response Team, and it can be a lifesaver.”

ROTARIANS AT WORK DAY: April 27
Close to 50 Rotarians, family and friends participated in the Rotarians At Work 2024 project at the Carlsbad Army Navy Academy last Saturday. Five vintage cottages needed to be repainted (exteriors) and there was planting to be done in several planter boxes on the campus. Beth Garrow coordinated the event that also included some academy staff and cadet volunteers. A set-up crew got there early, including bringing donuts, trail mix and water for the volunteers. From 8am to noon, volunteers painted and planted, laughed and enjoyed camaraderie. The academy thanked all by hosting a barbecue lunch that included cupcakes and cookies provided by several of our members. The day was beautiful; the project was very successful. Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary at your service!
